Just upgraded to vBulletin 3.7.0 which is a major update that includes MANY new features.

There are many new features and improvements to existing functionality in vBulletin 3.7.0 over vBulletin 3.6.x, most of which have already been described in the release announcements for the various pre-release versions, and in the First Look thread that was posted at the beginning of the beta process, but here is a brief list of just a few of the highlights.
I am also debating if I should keep the login info in the navbar by default and remove it from the header, or do it the other way round. I like it in the header but just doesn't look quite right.

» Looking for writers
Apr 06, 2008 - 6:29 AM - by HBAndrew
Well, we have come far. Bought vBulletin for $160 (technically $175), review system for $50, gallery for $35, and built this new site from scratch.

We are now looking for content, for writers or anyone who can write up reviews for multiplayer games, tutorials on creating maps or models, review some maps/levels for some multiplayer games etc.

It doesn't really need to be professional, but it needs to be of decent length not some 2 paragraph article, can be about ANYTHING multiplayer related. Console games, MMO games, emulators with multiplayer, your favourite map etc. Can span multiple pages with images aligned left/right with text wrapped around it. If you are not sure PM me or post here for more info.

If you have content to submit to us PM me and I will add it to the article system and eventually finally bring it public.

» Gallery is live!
Apr 04, 2008 - 4:55 PM - by HBAndrew
The gallery is now live! I have only added basic categories for now, if you have any suggestions for categories then read the description of the first category there and you will know the proper way to do so.

At the bottom is a member category, any uploads there creates a folder with the same name as the uploader and puts the images in there, use that for random stuff like personal projects etc. There is also an alphabet bar, this bar when a letter is clicked shows all images from all users who's user name begins with that letter. Can be removed in the future if people find it useless.

As always it's in constant testing any problems then post in the new Website bugs/problems forums I will create.

The review system isn't too far off now, it's basically done but zero content.

We are also on a PHP5 server now, and I have done a few tweaks and hacks to enable some cacheing and moved avatars, attachments etc from the database back to the filesystem, let me know if any problems arise.

Have fun!

» Review System
Mar 13, 2008 - 10:16 AM - by HBAndrew
Thanks to SharkMan again, we now have enough to buy the review system. I will get it later today and update this thread with information when it's done, but we still need reviews for multiplayer games/maps, mapping/modeling tutorials etc to actually put on it so get to it people.

EDIT: Review system is all up just no link yet and a couple more tweaks, I also just bought a gallery for us to use and have pretty much ported all the images from the old one, expect it online soon. I will also get round to adding more than just the default games to the arcade soon, just not yet it's not exactly top on the list.

Just added chatbox to arcade, will probably need testing and tweaking.

» New software!
Mar 04, 2008 - 1:59 AM - by HBAndrew
WE HAVE FINALLY MOVED! Click Read more for full thread.

Don't be lazy and skip all this! Useful information.

As you can see, we have finally moved to better software, vBulletin.

For now we don't have much, no review system, gallery or downloads, RPG in future maybe but it costs money, very bottom of the list. I'd say review system is the most important to aim for for now unless I can find a free alternative.

On the portal page I have set up a flash slideshow, this slideshow will be used basically to show the latest 5 things added such as game reviews, map reviews, tutorials etc as well as the ability to stream videos or .swf flash files. The links in the header may also be used to jump to a section quickly WHEN the review system is in place, in future I hope to find a better way of doing it to have more than just game review links in the header.

I have added an arcade, it may not be permanent there is an alternative choice out there but we will see. Allowed to download about 5 games per day from their site, out of thousands I think, so in future we will need to work together to get more faster, but not yet.

I have also added a mod called passivevid, basically post a link to a youtube video, gametrailers video etc and it will automatically be embedded into your post and be playable right there, here is the current list of supported video hosts.

Supported Video Sites:
  1. YouTube
  2. Google Video
  3. MySpace Video
  4. MetaCafe Video
  5. Yahoo Video
  6. Koreus Video
  7. Sapo Video
  8. video.google.co.uk
  9. Live Leak
  10. Photobucket
  11. Gametrailers
  12. MyVideo
  13. GameSpot
  14. Veoh
  15. StreetFire
  16. Stage6 (They have closed down now )
  17. Sevenload
  18. Izlesene
  19. Vidiac
  20. Xtube
  21. VidMax
  22. RedTube
  23. OnSmash
  24. GodTube
  25. PornoTube (er, disabled this one )
  26. BrightCove
  27. YouKu
  28. LiveVideo
  29. Break
  30. ExpertVillage
Visit this thread for a cool video spam area.

I have also added the best mod ever, automatic image resizing even from external sources, so, Killer12137 no more thread destroying for you. Even though it probably adds some extra queries to the page, I think it may be worth it in the long run. However if we get popular, it may also be one of the first things to go to lighten the load, it is very cheap shared hosting after all.

Not really worth a mention but I seperated sticky threads from normal ones and put all the information in the postbit to the left <---- in boxes to tidy it up.

Over the next few days I am going to be adding some things so if bad things happen don't shoot me.

One thing I will say that is planned though, are sections in the user control panel (which has also been upgraded with a drop down menu in the navigation above, and an enhanced private messages area) will have a place where you can set your Live gamer tags, xfire tags, etc etc and they will be displayed in your postbit.

I will try and compile a list later of installed and planned mods, maybe mods that may be usefull too that I am debating on installing or not and post it here or in another thread for reference.

Before I forget, this wouldn't have been possible without the help of a few good people. First of all thanks to Sharkman for donating the most, he already pays for hosting but paid $80 towards vBulletin, that's almost a year of hosting here. Next, thanks to Jusupov/Jusupoop for donating $45, thanks to Fourth Letter for donating $40, and thanks to Suicidal (Saffy) for donating $40.

Also thanks to TransparenT for doing the background of the header, the green HB orb, yellow HB and some of the blue bordering, I did Dog (needs a body I think XD) rest of the text, glow on top half of the bordering, all the link area and the login split area. Skin is not 100% yet, like some text in some areas blends to background, few things left but it's totally usable. At least it's our own for once and not something made by someone else.

Hopefully there's more of you who will now help with getting the review system for $50, the core of this website that can't really continue much without it, I will set something up later.

Anyway probably longest post I have ever typed, gone 5am bed, when I wake I will work on a proper forum structure and also some other useful mods, also hope I set permissions right and normal registered users can actually view everything

Oh and if anyone is wondering about that space in the header, I was planning to put some quick search there but it's already in the navbar so now I have no idea, also I removed the login/info box from the navbar area and stuck it in top right of header. Header needs a complete rewrite though and I may remove the login from header is I can't figure out what to do with the blank space.
